In the ever-evolving world of technology, the year 2024 marked a significant turning point for me. It was the year I ventured into the world of tech blogging, a decision fueled by a blend of passion, necessity, and the realization of giving back something. My journey into tech blogging was a carefully considered step, reflecting my desire to contribute to the tech community, share my insights, and demystify the complexities of technology for the masses.
The Catalyst for Change
The primary motivator for starting my tech blog and my journey on medium.com was the rapid pace of technological innovation. Each day brought with it new advancements, from groundbreaking AI breakthroughs to significant sustainable tech solutions. The digital landscape was in constant flux, and I found myself at the crossroads of curiosity and the urge to document these changes. Every developer knows what I am talking about and is aware of the daily struggles to find the right piece of code or the needed detailed how-to to finish a function.
Bridging the Gap
A significant driver behind my decision was the noticeable gap between tech enthusiasts and the general public. Technology, in its relentless march forward, often leaves behind a trail of jargon and complexity that can be intimidating to the uninitiated. I aimed to bridge this gap, translating the often esoteric language of tech into something accessible and engaging. I envisioned a platform that not only catered to tech aficionados but also welcomed novices, empowering them with knowledge and sparking their interest in technology. Why does someone have to reinvent the wheel, thus it was already been done several times.
A Personal Learning Journey
Embarking on this blogging journey was also a deeply personal choice. I saw it as an opportunity for growth and learning. Writing about technology compelled me to stay abreast of the latest trends, continuously expanding my knowledge base. This relentless pursuit of information became a fulfilling endeavor, transforming my understanding of technology and its implications on our daily lives. Moreover, it allowed me to hone my skills not just as a writer, but as a thinker, a researcher, and an educator. And to be honest, writing it done line by line, with all the reflection alongside was a great experience, because as you know, during the daily job, documentation was done in a quick and dirty way ;-)
Community and Collaboration
Another compelling reason for my foray into tech blogging was the sense of community it promised. The tech world thrives on collaboration and the exchange of ideas, and I wanted my blog to be a conduit for this exchange. It should become a platform for dialogue, where ideas could be challenged and insights shared. This sense of belonging and contribution to the collective knowledge of the tech community was profoundly rewarding.
My aim: Knowledge for everyone
I reviewed my notes on Confluence, where I created hundreds of pages with sometimes meaningful and sometimes (after years) content without any sense because of the missing or forgotten context. I had the feeling that all these notes should be shared with others because I can remember all the sweat and patience, which I invested in collecting the content.
Looking Ahead
The journey started 6 weeks ago and my goal is to publish 1–2 tutorials a week on this blog and my medium.com profile as well. All posts were tested and represent real-world examples combined with a link to Github, where the user can see the full code. That is because I can also remember a lot of tutorials, I found in the past with very interesting content, but without the complete code and so I got stuck.
Sharing is caring
So let’s remove some obstacles and dive into them. As a kickstart, I will showcase a complete Next.js 14 based project from scratch with a series of deep dives around it. At the end, you will have a complete website with Algolia for the on-site search, Azure Entra ID for the Auth part, Prisma for DB Handling, Contentful as a headless CMS, resend.com for mailing purposes, and a lot more. Stay tuned and support me with a clap or follow me on medium.com. All examples are based on services on the free plan, so you don’t need to invest any money.
